South American duty-free association ASUTIL has announced the appointment of Jose Luis Donagaray Sanguinetti as its new secretary-general, effective March 20. He replaces Enrique Urioste who took up a senior role with Uruguayan duty-free purchasing company IOSC late last year.

Jose Luis Donagaray (pictured) is a graduate in business administration from the Republic University of Uruguay and has an MBA from the Austral University in Argentina. He played an important role in opening the Research Center of the Harvard Business School for Latin America and in developing the highly-rated Endeavor Project in Uruguay. He is also in the marketing teaching profession, in the master programme of IEEM at the University of Montevideo. Here his complimentary studies include a seminar of negotiation, auditor of the ISO 9000 regulation for Uruguay and a strategic marketing management programme at the Harvard Business School in 1999.

The new secretary-general will attend the IAADFS Duty Free Show of the Americas from March 25 to 29, 2001 in Orlando, Florida, US. He will be accompanied by ASUTIL president, Francisco (Paco) Heredia Lafuente.

ASUTIL holds its annual conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on September 9-11, in partnership with Raven Fox. Last year's event was an outstanding success and interest is already high for this year.
