Mexican airport authority ASUR has capitalised on a 10.2% increase in passenger traffic in the second quarter of the year with first-half duty-free revenue growth of 11.5%. The company attributed the strong results to an enhanced retail offer at its airport shops, most of which are operated by Aldeasa, as well as rapid growth in international travel from airports such as Cancun and Cozumel.

Total retail revenue for the six months grew by 57.5%, mainly as a result of new convenience stores at several airports and increased average spend. Greater spending at its retail facilities also bolstered ASUR's income generated from concession fees by 13.3% in the second quarter. Other highlights of the results announcement include second quarter operating profit up a third year-on-year, and a 29.5% increase in commercial revenue (comprising duty-free, car rentals, retail, banking and currency exchange, advertising, teleservices, non-permanent ground transportation, food and beverage and parking fees).
