ASUR opens malls at Merida and Cozumel airports

Mexican airports company Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR) has announced that the rebuilt commercial centres at Merida and Cozumel airports have started operations. Merida and Cozumel are ASUR's second and third largest airports respectively, after Cancun International which reopened in November 2001.

ASUR ceo Frantz Guns commented: "We are pleased that construction works for the two new commercial centres were once again completed on schedule."

Aldeasa operates the duty-free shop at Merida airport which also has convenience stores landside and airside both operated by Cenca Comercializadora (Cenca) and a souvenir / destination store operated by local company Cinco Soles. An electronics store, Hard Rock Cafe and Montejo Bar are expected to open during the first quarter of 2002.

Cozumel's duty-free shop, operated by Aldeasa, will open this month. Cozumel also has a destination store operated by Cinco Soles and the Grab and Go shop operated by Mera (Controladora Mera).
