ASUR duty-free revenues increase
The Mexican airport authority continued to strengthen its commercial activities in the first half of the year
Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR) has posted a 54.77% year-on-year increase in duty-free revenues for its nine Mexican airports for the first half of 2004.The authority said the growth in international passenger traffic, improved product mix and the opening of a duty-free store in Cancun airport's satellite building in November 2003 were the main reasons for growth. The opening of four Tiendas Tropicales stores at Cancun airport terminals one and two in the early part of the year were also said to have contributed.
ASUR, which operates airports at Cancun, Merida, Cozumel, Villahermosa, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Huatulco, Tapachula and Minatitlan, also achieved an increase of 88.77% in food and beverage revenues, primarily as a result of the authority's operation of two restaurants from May this year.
Banking and currency exchange facilities increased in revenue by 41.15%, primarily from American Express entering Cancun T2 after remodelling.
For the second quarter of 2004, total passenger traffic increased year on year by 16.32%. Domestic traffic increased by 4.45% while international traffic increased by 24.96%.
