A strong performance in its duty-free, catering and other retail revenues has boosted Mexico's first private airport authority

Mexican airport authority ASUR has reported strong commercial growth across its network of nine airports in the first six months of the year. Commercial revenues rose by 39.55%, driven growth in the group's income from retail, catering and duty-free operations.

Duty-free revenues grew by 37.64% in the firs six months, largely as a result of international passenger numbers, which grew by 13.3% to 5.25m throughout ASUR's airport network. Catering revenue increased by 51.58% as a result of the growth in passenger traffic and ASUR's direct management of catering concessions. The group's retail business also benefited from the direct operation of three convenience stores previously managed by concessionaires, with revenue rising by 90.52%. New concessions for convenience stores at Cancún, Cozumel, Villahermosa and Oaxaca airports also aided retail growth.

The results were announced as the group unveiled its second-quarter statement, in which it stated that duty-free revenues performed stronger than in the first three months, growing by 44.96%, while growth in catering and retail revenues was slower than in the firs period, at 34.92% and 26.67% respectively.
