ASUR announces strong first quarter

27-Apr-2004

A rise in international traffic, particularly at Cancun and Cozumel, and in commercial revenues promise a good year for the Mexican authority

Mexican airport authority ASUR has reported strong first quarter passenger growth at its nine airports, with a surge in international visitors at Cancun and Cozumel airports leading the rise. The two airports grew international passenger numbers by 17.42% and 23.96% respectively in the quarter ending March 31 on the same period last year, while total international traffic at ASUR airports grew by 17.75%.

The company grew both aeronautical and commercial revenue, by 19.26% and 36.35% respectively, and posted total revenues of Ps463.3m ($41.2m) in the first quarter. Duty-free revenues grew by 34.65%, food and beverage by 23.16% and other retail by 33.14%. The group attributed the increase to a stronger offer and higher passenger numbers.

ASUR's net income for the quarter reached Ps.132.18 million ($11.75m), an increase of 44.03% compared to the same period in 2003.
