ARI plans new border venture

MIDDLE EAST. Aer Rianta International?Middle East (ARI-ME) is considering opening a border store on the frontier between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. It would be the company?s first venture into border stores in the region. The news, first reported by DFNI?s new e-mail service DFNI eXTRA, emerged as ARI announced a new venture in the inflight retail business and comes as the group seeks to diversify its operations.

The operator has signed a letter of intent with Gulf Air confirming the deal. The business will be administered through Bahrain Duty Free in which ARI-ME is a leading shareholder. In related news, ARI-ME is to establish a new company in partnership with Travellers, part of the Chalhoub Group, to target new inflight retail contracts in the region.
