The addition of business in Cyprus could drive the Bahrain-based retailer to a new sales record

Sales at Aer Rianta International-Middle East (ARI-ME) could hit close to $600m in 2006, according to managing director John Sutcliffe.

He told RavenFox.com: "We're approaching financial closure on the Cyprus deal [where ARI is part of the Hermes consortium that will take control of Larnaca and Paphos airports]. With Cyprus as part of our portfolio, we could achieve sales of close to $600m in this region this year."

Sutcliffe said that rising sales at ARI-ME's other regional operations would also contribute to an improved performance.

"All of our operations are ahead of sales at this time last year," he said. "We'll benefit from Abu Dhabi's withdrawal from Gulf Air from the second quarter onwards, when flights will move to Oman and Bahrain, two hubs where we operate retail. Aside from that we have development planned in several operations. We're agreeing final presentations for our expansion in Bahrain airport, and we'll be expanding in Muscat too, where the existing shop will require a longer lifespan that we originally expected owing to the delay in completing the new terminal."
