The Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association has boosted its membership numbers to 49 in its inaugural year, almost hitting its initial target

The Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA) has revealed that it has almost achieved its target of reaching 50 members in its first year of operation. At the organisation's annual general meeting in Singapore last week, APTRA president Rakhita Jayawardena revealed that 49 companies have signed up to the association, which was formed one year ago.

The association's membership includes brand owners, retailers, landlords and associations, and Jayawardena said that its representation of all stakeholders in travel-retail made it unique among trade associations. He added that APTRA was still seeking representation from the airline industry – although he noted that many inflight retailers are already members – as well as in the South Korean and Chinese travel-retail markets.

Jayawardena thanked the APTRA board for its commitment over the past year. "Each board member has brought a different perspective to our deliberations," he said, "and the time and effort they have devoted to APTRA is truly exceptional. I consider myself privileged to have had their help and support."
