The regional association appoints industry veteran Edwards to steer the Asian industry’s airport security campaign

The Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA) has appointed Alan Edwards to coordinate the regional aviation security campaign.

Edwards will help to achieve a “harmonized regulatory framework with sound bilateral customer protecting our customers and our industry”, said APTRA president Rakhita Jayawardena.

“The carriage of liquids, aerosols and gels by the travelling public has now become a critical aviation security issue which is having a significant impact on our business,” said Jayawardena. “Whilst the European Travel Retail Council has been working effectively with the European Commission on shaping regulations for EU members, the regulatory framework has had an impact on transfer passengers into these locations from our region.”

Edwards has worked in the duty-free industry for over 20 years in the UK, Asia and the Middle East. He has worked with Virgin Atlantic Airways, Alpha Airports Group and Aer Rianta International.

Edwards will work for APTRA on full-time basis for two months, based in APTRA’s office in Sri Lanka.
