The Spanish airport authority’s managing director Javier Marin will assume the role on a temporary basis

Spanish airport authority AENA president Manuel Azuaga has resigned for personal reasons after holding the post for four years. Azuaga’s resignation comes at a time when industry observers were commenting on government moves to introduce private capital to the airport authority, and a partial privatisation of AENA seemed possible.

Azuaga has been temporarily replaced by AENA airport division managing director Javier Marin who has held the post for the past four years. Marin’s internal knowledge of the airport authority could prove vital in any privatisation process, but industry observers at present believe the authority is more likely to appoint a career civil servant who would ensure maximisation of revenues for the government.
