The Spanish airport authority is expected to launch the long-awaited tender covering most airports apart from Madrid shortly

Industry sources indicate that Spanish airport authority AENA is finally about to issue the details of the €300m ($398m) mega-tender covering most Spanish airports except Madrid. AENA should have called the tender last summer as Aldeasa’s contract expired on December 31, but it delayed the launch to put the finishing touches to the tender documents.

Incumbent operator Aldeasa would probably favour one mega-tender, and of its competitors, Dufry Group would be among the few able  to compete on this scale. If the contract is divided into regional tenders, Aelia, Gebr Heinemann and AREAS are likely to be among the bidders. A result is expected before the end of the summer. For further analysis of AENA's expected tender see DFNI March 15.
