Zara and Mango are among the winners in the latest round of tenders for airside retail in Madrid's new terminal four

Spanish airport authority AENA has completed the line-up of airside retailers at Madrid Barajas airport's new terminal four, scheduled to open at the end of January 2006.

Leading fashion retailer Zara, part of the Inditex Group, will run two general fashion stores, one spanning 747sq m (8,040sq ft) in the main terminal and another 132sq m (1,420sq ft) store in the satellite terminal. Zara is recognised as one of the most successful retailers at Barcelona El Prat airport.

Barcelona-based fashion retailer Mango will operate a 314sq m (3,380sq ft) women's fashion outlet in T4. The company opened its first airport outlet, in Mexico City International airport, in partnership with Dufry Group last month. In Madrid Mango fought off bids from Massimo Dutti (owned by Inditex) and Esfera (owned by El Corte Inglés).

The concession for the 194sq m (2,090sq ft) toy store in Barajas T4 will be operated by Zaragoza-based retailer Imaginarium, in which LVMH Moët Hennessy-Louis Vuitton has a 40% stake. Cristal Music will run two multimedia outlets, spanning 246sq m (2,650sq ft) in the main terminal and 116sq m (1,250sq ft) in the satellite.

Estudio 2000 will manage the terminal's 252sq m (2,710sq ft) specialist sports outlet; long-established Madrid retailer Casa Exerez will operate a 124sq m (1,335sq ft) shoe shop; and ST Lonia, controlled by the brothers of fashion designer Adolfo Dominguez, will run a 124sq m accessories shop.

Barcelona-based Areas will operate three gourmet delicatessens occupying over 340sq m (3,660sq ft) as well as a 44sq m (475sq ft) store offering travel accessories. Areas was also awarded the concession to run a 340sq m mini-market at T4 last month.

The anchor duty-free retailer at the new terminal is Aldeasa, which has been awarded 8,000sq m (86,080sq ft) of retail space in the new terminal and satellite building. Aldeasa will invest nearly €20m ($23.5m) in the new outlets, where its concession runs until 2012.
