ACSA renovates Johannesburg retail mall

The refurbishment is the first stage of retail improvements ahead of the 2010 soccer World Cup

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has renovated its duty-free mall at Johannesburg International airport as part of its capital expenditure programme in preparation for the 2010 soccer FIFA World Cup. A further extension is planned by the end of 2007. The current refurbishment has included renovations to the airport's main tax- and duty-free store and the opening of Body Shop and Lacoste stores as well as two new restaurants, Africa Lounge and Cafe Ritazza, operated by Select Service Partners, a division of food services company Compass Group. ACSA estimates that 350,000 overseas visitors will arrive during the World Cup in 2010. The airport currently handles 13.3m passengers a year and the figure is expected to rise to 40m by 2010.
