ACI appoints new director general

Robert Aaronson has been appointed director general of Geneva-based Airports Council International, effective April 2, 2002. He succeeds Jonathan Howe whose term of office ended in December 2001.

Aaronson, currently executive vice president Americas at Lufthansa Consulting, is a well known aviation executive with twenty-five years experience in the airport business.

Aaronson has had direct responsibility for the management and development of six major US airports, including the three airports operated by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey: JFK, La Guardia and Newark International airport. He spent eight years in New York from 1981 to 1989 before becoming president and ceo of the Air Transport Association of America (ATA), the trade group of North American airlines. In 1993, he became executive vice president and general manager of Lockheed Air Terminal,  which became Airport Group International (now TBI).

In 1987 to 1988 Aaronson served as chairman of the Airport Operators Council International, one of the predecessor organisations of ACI.
