ACI Europe's Hamon to join Macquarie Group
Hamon's 25 years of experience will help Macquarie increase its airport activities in Europe
Outgoing ACI Europe director general Philippe Hamon will join international fund manager the Macquarie Group as a senior advisor when he leaves his current post on December 1.
Macquarie Airports (MaP), which controls major stakes in Sydney airport, Rome airports authority Aeroporti di Roma, Bristol International and Birmingham International, has invested almost Eu2bn ($2.4bn) in airports worldwide.
Christopher Frost,
Macquarie's head of airports advisory,
Europe, said Hamon's experience gave him a unique understanding of the market: "Philippe's extensive experience and relationships will complement our global team of more than 30 airport executives, who provide highly-specialised strategic, commercial, operational and financial skills to add value to the airports over the long-term."
Hamon founded the first permanent representation of European airports to the EU in 1987 and oversaw the creation of ACI Europe in 1991. A former senior executive at BAA, Hamon also played a key role in the ACI Europe Trading conference, which helped involve more airport authorities in discussions affecting travel-retail.
As reported by TRW on September 1, Hamon will be replaced by senior civil servant Roy Griffins, currently the
UK's director general of civil aviation.
