A News and Books store will open in the new southern concourse in September and operate under the Relay brand
Travel retailer Lagardère Services Asia Pacific (LSAP) has been awarded the contract to operate a 190sq m (2,045sq ft) News and Books concession at Canberra airport from September. The store will be located in the new southern concourse terminal and will operate under the Relay brand which will benefit from the retailer’s dedicated “Go Beyond” customer service training program. Team members will receive ongoing training monitored with regular independent mystery shopper audits. LSAP also plans to unveil the latest model of the Relay concept in the new tenancy.
LSAP CEO Scott Raisin said: “Canberra airport has a fantastic vision for its future and is investing a lot to ensure their passengers have the best on-airport experience possible. As a dedicated travel retailer our goal is to help create an enjoyable journey for every traveller. Our philosophy for Canberra airport will be simple....the right products, presented in a format tailored to travel; the best customer service and a shopping environment that is contemporary, welcoming and inviting.”
Canberra airport head of aviation Matt Brown added: “As the region’s most successful news and book travel retailer Lagardère Services Asia Pacific is perfectly positioned to maximise the return on this category for Canberra airport. The strength of their supplier relationships and unparalleled knowledge of airport news and book retailing in Australia gives us the utmost confidence they will deliver the best retail offer possible for our passengers.”
In addition, LSAP is planning to introduce various environmentally sustainable initiatives into the store design including the use of LED lighting. The initiative is expected to reduce energy consumption by around 40%.
