NEW ZEALAND. Auckland International airport is preparing to welcome record numbers of passengers next summer.

CROATIA. Dubrovnik Airport Duty Free Shop sales have surged ahead by almost a third for the first nine months of 2003 compared with the same period last year.
SPAIN. Spanish operator Aldeasa has reached agreement with state-controlled airport operator AENA to extend its concession to operate duty-free outlets at Madrid Barajas airport.
INTERNATIONAL. Operators and airport authorities have joined a growing alliance of industry companies acting to reduce unfair charges levied on credit card transactions, estimated to cost travel retailers Eu70m ($83m) a year.
UK/INTERNATIONAL. This year?s Inflight Sales Person of the Year (ISPY) event, to be held from November 26?28, has attracted a record number of delegates from companies involved in inflight retail.
CANADA. Douglas Crossing Duty Free has nearly completed a 3,000sq ft (279sq m) temporary outlet at British Columbia?s Douglas Crossing.
Though the news itself will not surprise many, the immediacy of South Africa's threat to duty-free tobacco sales has dealt a hammer blow to retailers and campaigners.
